Why Don't We Talk Ed Sheeran-Penned Single 'What Am I' and More

It's been a busy summer for Why Don't We, the guys just wrapped up a 2-month long tour across the U.S. and now Zach Herron, Jack Avery, Daniel Seavey, Corbyn Besson, and Jonah Marais stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, September 5, to perform their latest single "What Am I" in studio.

The love song was written by Ed Sheeran, along with Steve Mac and Ammar Malik. So how did Why Don't We end up recording it?

"From what we heard, he had us in mind for it, which was actually really crazy to us," Daniel says.

The youngest member of the group, Zach, is only 18. So Ryan wondered how his parents felt about him singing some of the romantic lyrics in their songs.

"There was a lot of times when we would write stuff and they'd be like 'Sorry Zach, you can't sing that," he explained. "But with this song, they actually didn't really say anything about the lyrics."

And the natural chemistry between this boy band is no accident!

"I honestly think that the coolest thing about us is that we put ourselves together," Zach says. "We were like, 'Yo, we're brothers' and before the band even started we were brothers. So now if anything goes wrong...well, I love you."

"We don't have many problems, honestly," Daniel adds. "It's rare that we really have a fight and if we do it lasts like a day."

This solid bond is a key part of their collaboration process too. The guys have already released 7 singles in 2019, including "I Still Do" "Come to Brazil" and their latest "What Am I."

"If we're in the studio writing someone will come up with an idea and then we all just work off each other," Corbyn says.

"And if there's a bad idea we'll just say 'that sucks, man," Daniel jokes.
