A mere three days after the release of Taylor Swift's highly anticipated seventh album Lover was released, the superstar kicked off this year's MTV VMAs ... with A LOT of love.
First, recreating her "You Need to Calm Down" music video, Taylor invited many of the nominated video's stars on stage to help her perform including Todrick Hall, and drag queens Delta Work and Trinity K. Bonet. The singer also, once again, supported the Equality Act as the words of the name of the bill flashed overhead.
Also, can we talk about this outfit?! T-Swift hit the stage rocking sparkly blue shorts, a gold bustier, and matching gold booties. Is Taylor actually Wonder Woman? YOU TELL ME:
Then, Taylor slowed things with her acoustic guitar to perform the title track from her new album "Lover," and let's just say the entire room — fans and celebrities alike — were feeling. the. LOVE. It was a true vibe.
THE PROOF:
Earlier in the day, Taylor revealed via social media (in her Lover filter) that, "I'm not just gonna be opening up the show with one song, I get to do two! And one of the songs that I'll be performing is one that I've never performed live before. So, wish me luck. You know, I just wonder which one it's gonna be?!"
Taylor dropped Lover on Friday, August 23rd and has already broken records, raking in the biggest sales for the an album in 2019 and becoming her sixth consecutive debut at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
Lover contains 18 gorgeous songs all about every facet of love, including lead single "Me!" featuring Panic! at the Disco's Brendon Urie, and the previously released "You Need to Calm Down," "The Archer" and title track "Lover." In fact, upon the album's release at midnight, Taylor took to social media to say, "This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It's the first album of mine that I've ever owned, and I couldn't be more proud."
In conclusion ... WE CANNOT WAIT FOR THE LOVER TOUR.
