Baz Lurhmann Casts Austin Butler as Elvis in Upcoming Biopic

Baz Lurhmann, who has directed some of the most iconic and colorful films of our time from Moulin Rouge to Romeo + Juliet to The Great Gatsby, has been on the hunt for the right actor to play none other than the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, in an upcoming unnamed biopic.

The film will focus on his early years and everybody from G-Eazy to Harry Styles to Ansel Elgort has been connected to the role, but Baz has just made his choice and he went with a far more unfamiliar name, Austin Butler.

He who might not be widely known, but has been working regularly since he was a teenager including more recently a lead role on The Carrie Diaries.

In a statement, Baz says:

"I couldn’t make this film f the casting wasn’t absolutely right and we searched for an actor with the ability to evoke the natural movement and vocal qualities of (Elvis), but also the inner vulnerability of the artist. I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”

Austin also shares quite a resemblance to Elvis, check out the pics below:
