Halsey’s hit single "Without Me" was born out of the tumultuous end of her relationship with G-Eazy and ended up being the first solo #1 of her career.
And she tells Billboard, beyond being such a sensitive and real topic, she also couldn’t stand the way she sounded on it at first, but warmed up to it.
And as far as why she thinks it was so successful, she has a theory.
"There's a lot songs that are, 'I'm a bad b***h, you don't know what you're missing out on,'" she says. "But I think there very few that speak from a point of vulnerability that says, 'You were taking advantage of me, and I would've kept letting you because I loved you so much.' Admitting that naiveté and that vulnerability, and maybe that's the reason why it worked so well is because it was very honest and very candid."
Her latest track “Nightmare” is out now.
