Chrissy Teigen. You know her. You love her. You retweet all her hilarious tweets. You feel like really, truly know her. But do you? The model revealed on Twitter that we've all been mispronouncing her name this whole time. It turns out Teigen is not actually pronounced as tee-gen, like we've all been saying for years. It's actually tie-gen. Who else is ~shook~?
The reveal came when Chrissy shared and responded to a thread about celebrities names that frequently get mispronounced. It started with a video of Ariana Grande pronouncing her own name, which the public has been saying as Gran-day. The pop superstar, however, pronounces her surname as Gran-dee. Chrissy, obviously, related to this because of her own experience with her surname being mispronounced.
Chrissy responded to some questions about the whole thing, admitting that, yes, even she has come to mispronounce her own name when appearing in public. "I know. I even correct people when they say it correctly. It's all v. effed up."
Omar Jimenez replied to Chrissy, saying he doesn't understand her decision not to correct people. She replied, "I don't correct people, ever. They can call me Janet and I won't. Wrong order? I'll eat it. Taxi going to the wrong airport? I'll change my flight."
Chrissy shared a video on Twitter, as well, where she states, "I'm tired of living this lie. It's tie-gen. Isn't it, mom?" In the background you can hear her mom yell "Yup!"
So now you know how to really say Chrissy Teigen's name. Let's all start pronouncing it correctly!
