Mac Miller's Death: How The Rapper Spent His Last Night Alive

Mac Miller spent the last evening before his unfortunate death surrounded by friends.

A music industry source told PEOPLE the departed rapper had been watching a football game with his buddies the night before he passed of an alleged overdose Friday (September 7).

"He loved the Steelers and was just out with friends watching the game last night," the insider described to the outlet, referring to Thursday's match in which the Philadelphia Eagles played against the Atlanta Falcons.

Evidently, the night proved just as normal as any other for Miller and his pals. However, the source stated the "Self Care" rapper, who had released his fifth and last studio album Swimming a month prior, was noticeably fragile. "Everyone who he worked with was aware that he was delicate," they said, "but thought it was because of the new album, nerves, nothing like this."

“At his record release in New York he was happy taking pictures, we felt like he was back," the source continued. "He wasn’t even drinking in New York. He was an artist’s artist; everyone loved him.”

The MC was found at his San Fernando Valley residence, where the Los  Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner pronounced him dead at 11:51 a.m. He was 26.

Following his death, law enforcement sources who searched the rapper's residence told TMZ Saturday (September 8) Miller's home may have been scrubbed of pill bottles, illegal drugs, and other drug paraphernalia as police were only able to find a trace amount "white powder" when searching for clues as to how he died. Even stranger, cops said people were at Miller's place both the night before and on Friday, around the time someone called 911.

Born Malcolm James McCormick, the young star had been especially open about his troubles with substance abuse, particularly in his music.

The artist's former girlfriend of two years, pop singer Ariana Grande, once cited Miller's struggles with addiction as a reason for their breakup in May. In light of the saddening report, a source close to the Sweetener singer said, "Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac" and that she was devasted over the news.

His high school sweetheart, a woman named Nomi Leasure whom he dated for over six years, also penned a touching story reportedly of her final memory with Miller.

In the wake of his death, celebrities flooded social media with words of heartbreak and mourning.
