It's official! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now (royally) husband and wife. The royal couple tied the knot at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, England on May 19th as all of their family, friends, and loved ones watched the romantic ceremony. But, you may be wondering about the details of Meghan's designer wedding gown, so here's what our bride was wearing.
Meghan was dressed in a modest ivory silk gown designed by Givenchy's Clare Waight Keller. With her shoulders barely peaking out of the dress's bateau neckline, Markle's wedding gown did include three-quarter sleeves, and an A-line shape with a small train. The dress was simple, yet feminine, and was covered in a gorgeous long (16.5 foot to be exact!) silk tulle embroidered veil. The veil is more significant than you may think as the embroidered flora represents the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. And holding the veil atop her very simple hairstyle was a bejeweled headband.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Princess Diana's wedding dress designer, Elizabeth Emanuel, said of Meghan's wedding gown, "It was absolutely plain and pure and elegant. Past royal wedding gowns tend to be very classic and very traditional, and this wasn’t because it did not have all the lace and all the decoration and anything on it. It was a new kind of look, but still classical and regal."
And just as many people adored Kate Middleton's wedding gown so much, they began to choose dresses similar for their own weddings, Emanuel thinks that many others will be copying Meghan's dress too. She explained, "Probably people will [be] thinking about having very long tulle trains as well. It is a very soft net - you can get the crunchy net, which is one sort of look, or this very beautiful, almost like a jersey tulle that falls like a drape and it is very pretty."
