Meghan Trainor Drops Sassy, Respect Demanding New Track “No Excuses”

Meghan Trainor is back y’all and demanding respect with sassy new track “No Excuses.” The 24-year-old songstress stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, March 1, to discuss the jam and her forthcoming third studio album.

“No Excuses” is about female empowerment and blasting sexism and mansplaining. The power anthem, Meghan shared with Ryan, is her “sassiest” song yet.

“It’s classic Meghan Trainor sassy girl," she shared in-studio. "The rest of the album is just a love album and fun and of course my dance songs. [There’s] only one ballad and it’ll make you cry for days, but [everything else off the album is] all upbeat and every song is a dance song,” she added. “Big pop anthem.”

While “No Excuses” is a funky, respect-demanding empowerment jam, the majority of other songs off her upcoming LP were inspired by her new fiancé, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara. The couple got engaged ahead of her birthday this past December.

“He was there while I was writing [the album]. He was in the studio with me for most of the songs so he got used to watching me write because month one [in of dating] I wrote ‘Marry Me,’” Meghan shared of Daryl. “I’m a bit aggressive,” she joked, “I’m, like, you’re mine forever!”

Daryl, who accompanied Meghan to the studio, adorably added that Meghan even warned him early on about the songs she’d be writing inspired by their romance.

“When we started dating though she’d look at me and go, ‘Wow, man, think of the songs!” Daryl shared.
