Sleeping Can Help You Stick To Your New Year's Resolutions

I'm about to tell you something you don't want to hear.

You need to get more sleep.

I know, I know! It seems impossible! You're so busy, you have to balance work and exercise and cooking for yourself and a social life!

But if you want to stick to your New Year's Resolutions longer, you need to sleep more. And that's a total bummer.

But studies show that getting more sleep can help you with some of the most popular resolutions people set.

Eating Healthy - when you're tired, you're more likely to reach for carbs and sweets as opposed to when you're well-rested and are more likely to grab fruits and veggies. When you're sleep-deprived, you don't go for the foods that are good for you because they don't feel rewarding.

Weight Loss - when you don't sleep, you have a reduced level of leptin, which is the hormone that tells you when you're full. So basically when you're sleep deprived, you take away the ability to know when you're actually full. Crazy right?! No wonder we're always starving after a wild night out where we didn't get much sleep...

Exercise - think about it: if you're exhausted from not sleeping, there's not a chance you're going to want to work as hard at the gym. It's hard enough to get in a really good work out when you're refreshed and feeling ready to rock! Unfortunately, the more you sleep, the better your work out will be.

This is kind of horrifying right? But... here we are... needing roughly 8 hours of sleep every single night.

I think I have been averaging only 6 or so for years!! And with the babies coming... there's no way I'll be getting 8 hours very often. I guess it's time to try and fill up on sleep before they're born!
