Ryan Seacrest Returning As Host Of 'American Idol'

Ryan kicked off this morning's show with some MAJOR news: he is officially returning as the host of American Idol for its first season on ABC.

"It was like I broke up with someone," Ryan admitted of when Idol ended last year. "Then there were these rumors it was going to come back...and my tail started wiggling. And last night I found out — I'm going to host American Idol."

The announcement was made first on Live With Kelly and Ryan, where Ryan stepped in as co-host earlier this year.

American Idol auditions kickoff on Thursday, August 17 as the Idol Bus Tour jumps into gear across America on a nationwide search for the next superstar, with the show and Ryan returning to television sometime next year.

For those wondering if this means Ryan is departing other projects, no need to worry about anything (except maybe Ryan's sleep); in addition to Idol, Ryan will also continue hosting Live With Kelly and Ryan, On Air with Ryan Seacrest and American Top 40.

Fans and Idol alums alike took to Twitter to share their excitement about the news:

However, Sisanie summed it up best, saying: "There is nobody else who could host this show."
