With the Tour de France kicking off this weekend, what better time for there to be a comedy about biking-racing.
Andy Samberg stars in HBO's Tour de Pharmacy, a mockumentary that spoofs world of competitive cycling, also featuring appearances from Orlando Bloom, John Cena, Kevin Bacon and many, many more.
“I figured I had to go serious, that was the only way to do it. So I got all of my best comedian friends together and made a movie about cycling,” Samberg jokingly told On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Friday. "It’s a fake documentary about the 1982 Tour de France and all of the crazy doping and rockstar behavior that was going down in the fictional version of it."
And the styling and fashion for this movie is definitely like a blast from the past!
"Part of the fun of it for sure for us was finding all the old bikes and the old bike outfits sort of the dawn of spandex. But also it was fun like making it look like 1982," he says. "We shot on old Beta cameras and stuff and really went legit trying to make it feel authentic and aged and stuff."
Tour de Pharmacy premieres Saturday, July 8th at 10/9c on HBO.
