Harry Styles Talks Wango Tango, Shares Funniest Inspo Behind Those Pearls

Harry Styles is set to perform at iHeartRadio’s Wango Tango 2020! The “Lights Up” singer phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, January 31, and pledged to perform a certain song for Tanya Rad at the summer bash this June as well as hilariously revealed where the inspiration for those pearl necklaces comes from.

“I’m very excited to be playing the Wango Tango,” Styles shared with Seacrest on-air, revealing that when it came to recording tracks for sophomore album Fine Line, he wanted it to be fun.

The former One Direction member recently commented on his initial fears of going solo with the release of his debut album back in 2017, telling the Today show that he felt like he needed to initially prove himself.

“I think maybe not very consciously saying ‘I don’t want to make fun songs,’ [but] I think maybe a little subconsciously I was going out of the band like … a little afraid of stuff that sounded too foreign or sounded too pop-y,” Styles explained to Seacrest. “It was just me being in my own head and then when it came to the second record, I was like I just want this to be fun for me and I want to be happy doing it and I want to be in the studio with songs that make me want to dance. … It was definitely a big shift in terms of my mindset going towards the second record.”

The upbeat, trippy, retro, free-feeling album can also be reflected in Styles’ headline-making fashion.

“It’s pretty colorful these days,” Styles commented, adding that those necklaces may have some Simpsons influence.

“I think I [have] trace[d] back where my love of pearl necklaces came from,” the English singer concluded. “Recently I was thinking about why have I been so fascinated with them since I was a child and I think — I think — it’s Lisa Simpson,” he joked. “It might be Lisa Simpson.”
