One of the surprise moments of last Sunday’s Grammy Awards was Lil Nas X’s performance of "Rodeo" featuring the original Nas, A.K.A. Nasty Nas, the legendary Brooklyn MC.
What was particularly cool about it was that it instantly squashed the rumor that Nas didn’t like Lil Nas X or was bitter over his name being stolen.
Turns out their team up was something Lil Nas X actually had to keep under wraps for quite some time. He tells Billboard:
"It came together maybe a month and a half ago, but it was something I've been sitting on for a little bit. I thought it would be its own moment for hip-hop. Just to have that whole [idea] of 'Nas doesn't like Lil Nas' perish. It was dope of him to hop on the song."
Nas also instructed his young namesake to keep fighting for his place in hip hop. Lil Nas X explains, "The best advice Nas gave me was to 'keep your foot on their necks.'"
