Billboard’s Songwriters 100 ranks the most successful songwriters week-by-week based on how successful their songs are on the current charts.
Typically it’s dominated by modern artists and producers you know by name like Benny Blanco, Pharrell, and Louis Bell.
But the guy at the top of the list right now is the first writer to ever top the list posthumously and he’s been gone since 1985.
The late great Johnny Marks rocketed to #1 thanks to two timeless holiday classics that he penned all on his own reentering the Hot 100.
Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas" at #48 and Brenda Lee's "Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree" at #29.
Chances are Johnny isn't going anywhere over the holiday season because he also wrote Gene Autry's "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run."
