Why Van Halen Rushed to Billie Eilish's Defense

Billie Eilish created a bit of a firestorm online when she confessed to Jimmy Kimmel that she didn’t know who Van Halen was.

If you, like Billie, aren’t familiar with them Van Halen is a legendary 80s rock band from Los Angeles that some say were the forefathers of the hair metal craze.

Some rock purists tore into Billie for not being aware of such a famous, influential group, but one guy who didn’t take in personally was Van Halen’s bassist.

Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who joined the group when he himself was even younger than Billie. Only 15.

And Wolfgang extinguished any controversy by tweeting:

"If you haven’t heard of Billie Eilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of Van Halen, go check them out. They’re cool too. Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like."

Billie’s latest “all the good girls go to hell” is out now.
