Ava Max seemingly came out of nowhere with her hit single "Sweet But Psycho," but as is usually the case the truth is she’s been working hard for several years to get her career off the ground.
The pivotal moment for her where things started to click happened at a birthday party for somebody she didn’t even know.
She tells Rolling Stone she was out in Los Angeles hanging with her friends and somehow ended up at the celebration. She was known as "the singer" in her crew, so somebody asked her to serenade the birthday boy with a rendition of "Happy Birthday."
That just-so happened to be Cirkut, the mega producer behind hits for Katy Perry, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, and he obviously liked what he heard.
They started collaborating and Ava adds: "I ended up in the sound that I’ve always wanted to be in. I never had the right opportunity to get there until I met Cirkut, until he let me express myself and be free."
"Sweet But Psycho" produced by none other than Cirkut is out now.
