So, California is pushing forward a bill that would block kids under 16 from using social media at all.
Like, not just limiting time… straight up no access unless there’s some kind of age verification in place.
The whole idea is to protect kids from the mental health effects and harmful content online, which lawmakers are saying has become a huge issue.
But obviously, it’s not that simple. People are already debating how they would even enforce something like this... like, would kids need to upload their birth certificate or what?
And there’s also pushback about privacy…and whether it’s the government overstepping versus something parents should control.
So it’s still moving through the process, but if it actually passes, it could seriously change how kids use apps like TikTok and Instagram here in California.
