Shannen Doherty Cast In 'Riverdale' Tribute To Luke Perry

Paramount Network Launch Party - Arrivals

Riverdale fans will soon be seeing someone very special to the show's star Luke Perry - his former 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty has been cast in the Riverdale episode that will pay tribute to the late actor, who died in March of this year after suffering a stroke.

Yesterday Shannen shared two cute throwback photos along with a sweet message about her former co-star, commenting on the news that she would be joining the tribute episode and praising the popular CW show for their "care" in honoring Luke's memory.

The announcement was originally made at Comic-Con in San Diego on Sunday.

Shannen wrote: “I am deeply honored to pay tribute to Luke onRiverdale. The care in which this show takes in honoring his memory is beautiful. He is missed. Today. Tomorrow. Forever."

The show’s creator, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, shared how the show would honor Luke during the Comic-Con panel. He said the episode will "reflect Perry’s enduring legacy and the indelible imprint his character” Fred Andrews had on Riverdale.

Talking about Shannen's casting for the episode, he said: "They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said, ‘Yes.’ It’s very impactful.”

The tribute to Luke Perry will be the first episode of season 4, which will begin airing on October 9th.

Shannen knew Luke well from their days on 90210 together, where they played on-again, off-again couple Brenda Walsh and Dylan McKay.

Any fans on 90210 like myself will definitely have to tune into the tribute episode to see what this 'super-emotional' role Shannen will play in tribute to her late friend.
