Chrissy Teigen Reveals She Felt 'Embarrassed' By Postpartum Depression

The internet's best friend Chrissy Teigen has been incredibly candid about the postpartum depression that she experienced after she welcomed she and husband John Legend's first child, Luna, 3 years ago.

And now she's getting even more raw and honest about what she experienced - further explaining that she actually felt 'embarrassed' by her postpartum depression.

And I cannot say enough how thankful I am that Chrissy is shedding light on such an important topic, and something that affects so many women after they give birth.

Chrissy is fully aware that her life is "happy" but she opened up about how postpartum depression "does not discriminate" in her recent Net-A-Porter interview.

Chrissy revealed:

"I felt bad [about it] because we had so many resources. John was great and helpful. My mom was here… I was embarrassed."

She explained in her Glamour essay on the topic exactly why it was embarrassing for her:

"I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do."

I love her for recognizing that it doesn't matter who you are, postpartum depression can happen to any of us women who give birth. My experience was scary, and I absolutely know the feeling of being embarrassed by it. I had so much help from my husband and family and friends, but like she said, it does not discriminate.

This month is Maternal Mental Health Month, and Chrissy has been opening up the conversation around postpartum depression all month long... and I think the more we all talk about it, the less embarrassing it will be for those going through it!

Moms, we got this!
