Sophie Turner Talks Growing Up On Camera And How Joe Jonas Saved Her Life

We all love the relationship that newlyweds Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have - but, as with most things in celebrities lives, it turns out there is also a lot we didn't know about the couple.

Sophie recently opened up about how Joe "saved her life" as well as about her own mental health struggles in an interview with the Sunday Times.

The full interview is absolutely worth a read, as Sophie talks a lot about the importance of therapy for everyone, but she also got very real about growing up in front of cameras and how something her now-husband Joe said to her early on that made a huge difference.

“Suddenly, everyone’s metabolism slows down at 17, 18 and then that’s documented... My skin and everything. People commenting on it. I was too aware of my body at a young age. And it just kind of took over my mind, it was all I would think about. Calorie counting, everything. Oh, I’ll just eat nuts today.”

She says during this time of extreme calorie counting, she stopped getting her period and decided to go to therapy. It was also around this time, when she was 20 years old, that she met Joe and, as she explains, was “going through this phase of being very mentally unwell."

But something he said made all the difference for her:

“He was, like, ‘I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself.’ That was something, him doing that."

Sophie admits: “I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.”

She also revealed how much social media was affecting the way she saw herself, because you could see all the positive comments and not think much of them, but the negative ones would really affect her.

“People used to write, ‘Damn, Sansa gained 10 lbs.,’ or ‘Sansa needs to lose 10 lbs.’ It was just a lot of weight comments. Or I would have spotty skin because I was a teenager and that’s normal, but I used to get a lot of comments about my skin and my weight and how I wasn’t a good actress.”

So glad to hear that she is doing better, and is someone who encourages people going to therapy. It really can make a huge difference, and it clearly did for Sophie.
