Admit it, you've probably spent even just a moment of your time in the last year wondering who was the father of Mindy Kaling's daughter, Katherine.
Well, if you thought that perhaps that father was Mindy's former flame and The Office co-star BJ Novak... well, you thought wrong. But he is a big part of both Mindy and her daughter Katherine's life, because he's Katherine's godfather.
Mindy talked about BJ's relationship with her daughter in Good Housekeeping and, honestly, you're going to melt:
“The truth is that B.J. is so much more like family now than a platonic friend. He’s the godfather to my daughter."
She also revealed that he will come over just to play with Katherine, and not even to hang out with Mindy:
“He comes over like once a week. Sometimes he’ll come over just to hang out with her."
So, you see, even though Mindy and BJ apparently dated on and off years back, they seem even closer now that Mindy has her daughter. The pair have attended events together, too, sparking rumors that they may be back together... but from her recently comments, he really is just like family.
And by the way, Mindy gets that it looks pretty complicated to people who aren't them!
“If I was on the outside looking at it, I would think the same thing."
But, she did share something about their relationship/friendship/what do we even call this anymore, that may have you going "ahhh, that makes sense."
“When you’ve known someone for as long as I’ve known him — the time that we met each other, which was like 24. Now, we’re both almost 40. It’s such a long time that he truly is just a part of my family.”
You can't beat 16 years of history with someone. So, I think we can all accept that he isn't Katherine's dad... but what a cool godfather for Katherine to grow up with!
