This One Thing May Be The Key To A Long And Healthy Relationship

Pretty much every one who's married or has been married is willing to give you some sort of relationship advice.

Me? I definitely don't claim to know the secret to a long-lasting and healthy marriage, but I will ALWAYS relay the information I get... just in case that happens to be the thing that holds true for you.

So when I read that experts believe to have found out what ONE quality is key to a long and healthy relationship, I knew I needed to pass it on. To evvvveryone.

You might think it's 'spending quality time together' or 'having the same interests' or 'regular intimacy.'

But nope, it's none of those things.

It's actually something that I know my relationship has, and most people I know have: being able to tease each other.

So go ahead, make fun of your partner for never putting their dirty clothes in the  laundry basket that is literally three feet away! Bang on the door and ask if they fell in when they've taken so long in the bathroom you really are starting to get concerned. If you can do these things and both laugh about it, then you're in a good place!

Dacher Keltner, a professor of Psychology and author of Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life, says that, "happy couples tease a lot when they’re in conflict."

And it's not just that you're willing and able to tease, it's the way you tease.

Keltner continued: "They tease in ways that allow them to express issues of conflict, but in a cooperative and pleasant way. It predicted how long they’d stay together.”

What are the benefits of teasing? Well, it's playful, it shows you can laugh at yourself, it proves you have a solid, secure relationship and both accept each other for who you are and it means you have a sense of humor.

I completely agree! Sometimes in life, you just need to be able to laugh about the stuff that might otherwise make you scream - right?!
