Elementary School To Start Charging Parents Who Drop Off Kids Too Early

Parents! I have a question for you, because obviously I'm not dealing with school drop off yet with my 4-month-old twins.

Would you be mad if the school your kids attended started charging you for dropping the kids off early in the morning before school?

Well, one school has started charging parents when they drop their kids off "too early," which is anytime before 8:30am, would be charged a small fee for the child care services.

It was reported that an email was sent to parents last week by Burrowes State School principal Kristine Lemon, saying that any drop-offs done before 8:30 am would be met with a small fee of $2.60 per child.

At the school requiring the charge, the school day does not start until 8:50am, so if kids are dropped off at 8:20am, they would just be wondering around the campus for 30 minutes before the morning bell, which is why the principal has suggested that working parents who need to drop off earlier than 20 minutes before school begins use the care service that's already in place at the school.

The Logan elementary school has its privately owned out-of-hours centre, KDK Kids First, providing care to students aged five to 12 from 6 am-9 am, 3 pm-6 pm and during the holidays to assist working parents.

I think that if there's a before and after school care center already in place at the school, you should absolutely be using it if you're dropping the kids off early! You don't want your elementary school-aged kids running around their school without supervision in the mornings.

Plus, the $2.60 fee per day includes breakfast for the kids, so you can save even more time in the morning by dropping the kids off without going through making breakfast and getting them to eat before you leave for school!

What do you think about this school's new rule?
