Katy Perry gave back to her hometown community this weekend by putting on her Witness: Coming Home show at the Santa Barbara Bowl to benefit the ongoing efforts to raise money for the areas that were affected by the devastating natural disasters in the Santa Barbara area last year.
But of course Katy didn't let the concert with a serious meaning behind it go on without it also being a party.
She wanted everyone in the audience to have such a great time, in fact, that she bought everyone - and yes, I mean everyone - in the audience a beer.
At the first part of the two-night finale of American Idol on Sunday, Katy talked about her show from the night before and shared just why she chose to buy everyone a beer.
And by the way, how much does it cost for every single person in the crowd to have one beer at the Santa Barbara Bowl?
Of the cost she admits she has not gotten the bill yet: "I think they're still crunching the numbers."
But her reasoning behind wanting to buy beers for everyone is hilarious:
"I was doing a show in Santa Barbara for the mudslide relief in Montecito, and there’s a lot of guys who are there ’cause I think they want to be, but I know that they’re usually there to support their wives or girlfriends or kids."
She continued:
“I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m opening up the bar and buying everyone a beer!’ So all the men — even my own sister’s husband — left and they all came back double-fisting. It was amazing.”
Good on you KP! It's the little things that can make an important night even more light-hearted and fun. Not to mention she was just doing it all for a great cause!
Katy also shared a photo of her dog from the event:
The photo is complete with the perfect play on her own song, and encourages people to keep donating even if they couldn't attend her show!
And it's good to be Katy right now - after her benefit show in Santa Barbara, she wrapped up an amazing season of American Idol Sunday and Monday, crowning (spoiler alert!!) Maddie Poppe as your new American Idol!
