Darren Criss is wowing critics with his performance in the new Netflix show Hollywood and it turns out Darren didn't have to look far for inspiration for his character. The hottest show on steaming right now is courtesy of Ryan Murphy and offers an alternate version of history, portraying what the Golden Era movie industry of the 1940s could have been if racism and homophobia hadn’t been road blocks to so many talented artists careers.
Criss, who’s worked with Ryan since Glee, stars as aspiring director Raymond Ainsley and many people have been wondering who he based the fictional character on and Darren says none other than Ryan Murphy himself.
“Subconsciously, there’s a whole bunch of Ryan Murphy in Raymond Ainsley,” he told Deadline. “Here is a character who uses the camera as a form of social justice for changing the culture. He’s basically wanting to create art but doing it for a higher calling. There’s a much higher social justice drive behind the things he does which is exactly what Ryan has done his whole career.”
