Tanya Rad: Training For a Marathon Tips and Tricks!

Tanya Rad here! I’ve started training for the Nike LA half marathon — even though I haven’t signed up yet and I wanted to share some of the tricks and tips I’ve come across that supposedly help you train.

I usually run on the treadmill when I run because it’s been so cold out, but now I’m taking it to the pavement and running outside in the streets!

According to Shape magazine, there are tons of ways to prepare — from finding your stride to being choosy with your sneakers.

Shape also recommends double layered socks to prevent blisters and that when it comes to training, don’t just run.

"Cross train at least two days a week with low-impact workouts,” an expert told Shape. “This will improve your overall fitness level and give your bones and joints a rest from all the miles.”

Other pro tips? Up your calcium intake to protect your bones and joints and, of course, gradually increase your mileage.

"An increase of one to two miles per week is more than enough and will keep you on track with your goal,” the magazine shares.
