Chris Harrison Reveals How “The Bachelor” Affects His Own Dating Life

Chris Harrison has been hosting The Bachelor franchise since 2002 and now that he’s single himself, we had to ask, has navigating hundreds of potential relationships and dream dates helped or hurt his dating game?

The ABC host stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest and admitted that no, not so much 😂

“Well, I’m single,” Chris said. “‘Those that can’t do, teach,’” he jokingly continued while talking about his own love life. “Having been married for as long as I was, and being a dad and raising two teenage kids, … that life experience definitely helps me, but watching the show and watching all of this unfold over 17 years has definitely made me a different man as far as love, romance, commitment, communication — a lot of aspects of relationships —  it made me realize it’s next to impossible so I’ve quit,” he joked. “I’ve given up.”

Chris added that yes, there is also added pressure when it comes to first dates given the show's over-the-top setups.

“The pressure is on because I often don’t fly to Bora Bora on a private jet or hot air ballon,” he added. “Can I just go to dinner and a movie, can I just do that?”

Chris and his ex-wife Gwen Harrison announced they were separating after 18 years of marriage in May 2012. “Though we have made this incredibly difficult decision to separate, our love and mutual respect remain, and we look forward to sharing in the lives of our wonderful children,” they said in a joint statement at the time. (Together they share kids Joshua, now 16, and Taylor, 14.)

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host is, however, still looking forward to season 23 of the franchise, where Colton Underwood will assume the position as the Bachelor. As #BachelorNation is well aware, Colton made headlines for revealing he’s a virgin during Becca Kufrin's season, making him now the first-ever virgin Bachelor on the show.

“I think that’s more of an honor system type of thing,” Chris said when Ryan asked how they know for sure Colton is a virgin. “I don’t know if anyone would look at him and see how he’s been and thought ‘Oh, he’s lying, he’s been with a million ladies’ … I believe him.”

Colton’s virginity will obviously be a big part of his season, too.

“That is one of the big questions: If an when he gets to the fantasy suite, what will happen there?” Chris added. “And this whole season that is one of the social aspects and hurdles we’re going to take care of … Is he going to remain a virgin? How do the women deal with that? … How much is too much? He said it’s not religious, he’s just waiting for the right woman, … so [will he] go there? Do you cross that hurdle? … That’s what’s going to be interesting … Is he really ready? Is he ready to commit? We’re going to find out.”
