Phoebe Bridgers Announces Sophomore Album, Shares New Single 'Kyoto'

33nd Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert & Gala - Performances

On Thursday (April 9), Phoebe Bridgers gave fans something to look forward to during these scary times and officially announced her sophomore album Punisher. The singer-songwriter shared the news via Instagram, where she shared the cover: a long-distance shot of Bridgers looking up at the stars while wearing a skeleton suit "somewhere in the desert at 4am."

In addition to the album news, the 25-year-old also shared its second single, "Kyoto."

“This song is about impostor syndrome. About being in Japan for the first time, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and playing my music to people who want to hear it, feeling like I’m living someone else’s life," she said about the track in a statement. "I dissociate when bad things happen to me, but also when good things happen. It can feel like I’m performing what I think I’m supposed to be like. I wrote this one as a ballad first, but at that point I was so sick of recording slow songs, it turned into this.”

Punisher is slated for a June 19 release and features guest spots from Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner, her boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, and Better Oblivion Community Center collaborator Conor Oberst. Pre-order the album here and watch the "Kyoto" video below.
