The lead single from Mac Miller’s posthumous album is here!
Thursday (January 9) marked the release of “Good News,” the lead single from the late rapper’s soon-to-be-released album, Circles. Paired with its release, directors Eric Tilford and Anthony Gaddis also gave the track the music video treatment featuring footage of the beloved star before his untimely death. As fans know, Miller died of an accidental drug overdose in September 2018 at the age of 26.
The six-and-a-half-minute project is a colorful montage of clips depicting Miller at various stages throughout his career, which are thrown into a kaleidoscopic dreamscape of graphics and animations. It is a creative and heartfelt homage if there ever was one. “Good news, good news, good news,” he sings in the carefree, feel-good chorus. “That's all they wanna hear.”
The track is the first to emerge from Miller’s canon since is unfortunate death in 2018, following the release of his fifth and final studio album, Swimming. With the help of producer Jon Brion, Miller’s family announced Circles, arriving January 17, would be the first project to release after his death.
"At the time of his passing, Malcolm was well into the process of recording his companion album to Swimming, entitled Circles," his family revealed in an Instagram post. "Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle—Swimming in Circles was the concept. … After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcolm. We are eternally grateful to Jon and to those who gave their best to the difficult and emotional task of putting out this body of work."
To support the LP, there will be three free fan pop-up events held in Los Angeles, New York, and Pittsburgh from January 17-18. All proceeds will go to The Mac Miller Fund.
