Lil Nas X Comes Out During Pride Month: 'Thought I Made It Obvious'

Glastonbury Festival 2019 - Day Five

Lil Nas X seemingly opened up about his sexuality over the weekend.

On Sunday (June 30), the "Old Town Road" rapper used World Pride Day to honor his truth when he acknowledged himself as a member of the LGBTQ community. Nas X made the announcement on Twitter with the visual for his song, "C7osure (You Like)," along with the caption:

"Some of y'all already know, some of y'all don't care, some of y'all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y'all to listen closely to c7osure," Nas X wrote in a tweet along with a rainbow emoji and animated visual for the record.

The track, produced by Allen Ritter and Boi-1da, appears on Nas X's 7 EP, and expresses the performer's desire for personal growth and liberation. These expressions are conveyed through such lyrics like, "True say, I want and I need/ To let go, use my time to be free and "Ain't no more actin', man that forecast say I should just let me grow."

Although Nas X does not specify his sexuality in his post, the lyricist's follow-up tweet — which draws attention to the rainbow that appears on his album cover — sparked speculation the artist had come out as gay. "Deada-- thought I made it obvious," he wrote of the artwork.

The tweet has gained over 340k likes and garnered Nas X immense praise from fans, celebs, and fellow members of the LGBTQ community. "Really happy for u dude," tweeted beauty guru James Charles, with actress Tika Sumpter adding, "We love you."

Nas X was inspired to come out after he performed alongside Billy Ray and Miley Cryus in Glastonbury, England. Sources close to the rapper revealed to TMZ that he intended to be vague with his tweets. As per the outlet, he was simply "tired of being closeted." "Everything's happening so fast his head is spinning. He may become a leader in gay rights, but not quite yet," an insider said.
