Ahead of his hosting gig at the Grammys on Sunday, January 28, James Corden phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, January 25, and dished to Ryan what to expect during music’s biggest night.
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards return to New York City on Sunday for the first time in 15 years and will feature performances from music’s biggest stars including Lady Gaga, Pink, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars with Cardi B, Childish Gambino, Rihanna with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller, Kesha, Sam Smith, Elton John with Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town, U2 and more.
According to host James Corden, Kesha will be among the best performances of the evening.
“I think Kendrick Lamar is going to be pretty sensational,” James told Ryan on-air. “It’s really amazing and Lady Gaga’s [performance] looks good and interesting … [but] Kesha I think might have the most powerful performance of the night.”
He added: “Looking at what people are doing on paper, it looks pretty extraordinary.”
The 2018 Grammys will mark the second time the Late Late Show host has hosted the awards show. His return to the stage comes just weeks after he and wife Julia Carey welcomed their third child together, a daughter, on December 12.
“[She’s] only five weeks old so it felt a little soon to be making the trip,” James told Ryan of his decision to not travel with the family to NYC. “My son was very upset. He loves New York. It’s his favorite place in the world.”
James joked that his 6-year-old son, Max, held it against him for not bringing him to the Grammys.
“He’s not missing me, it’s just knowing he’s missing out on something.”
The Grammys will be broadcast live on CBS from 7:30 to 11 p.m. ET. The show will also be live-streamed on CBS’ website via the network’s All-Access subscription service. Catch Ryan on E!’s Live From The Red Carpet: The 2018 Grammy Awards beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT.
