Our hearts! Sam Smith is laying it all out in his new track “Too Good at Goodbyes.” The singer phoned in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, September 7, and revealed that his highly anticipated new track is about his most recent breakup.
"This song — I don’t want to say too much because I want to let the music speak — it’s a song about a relationship I was in last year … it’s about getting good at getting dumped,” Smith explained. “I thought I was [good at it] when I wrote the song, but then it didn’t go to plan.”
Smith spoke candidly about how the track is hard for him to release and have the world hear considering it’s so personal.
“I find this part of my job really difficult because my music is so personal,” he added. “It’s like a diary … I’m very sensitive. ... I couldn’t be any more single right now. I’m on the front lines.”
That said, his upcoming album won’t just be about his love life.
“This album is not just about my relationships. It’s about some other stuff [too] … it’s like looking through a photo album … I [actually] feel really happy at the moment for the first time. I’m actually OK being single,” he concluded. “I’m not too sad.”
