Enedina Vance is against body alterations in children, including everything from ear piercing to circumcision, and to make people understand her perspective, she posted a photo of her six-month-old daughter with a cheek piercing.
Of course, the picture was photoshopped and alongside it, she wrote a tongue-in-cheek caption that included lines, like "She'll thank me when she's older," and, "I'm the parent, she is MY CHILD, I will do whatever I want!! I make all of her decisions until she's 18, I made her, I own her!"
She hashtagged the post #sarcasm, but some people didn't read it all the way through and she got so much flak that Facebook temporarily deactivated her account.
Vance told Yahoo, "I can’t believe how many people actually believe my photo is real. So many people are outraged at the thought of piercing my baby at such a young age, without her consent, and against her will. Yet, they don’t understand how other body mutilations, alterations, and modifications are the exact same thing for the exact same reason: aesthetic purposes."
While there are many who disagree with her, Enedina definitely made some strides in getting her point across and hopes more people understand that only an individual can make decisions about their own body, not parents or anyone else.
